Summary
A deep book predicting much of what we see today. Masterfully crafted parallel between the hideous strength twisting men and the humble, crisp goodness of the faithful.
About
Beautiful and alarming, That Hideous Strength is the last book in a series now poorly labeled The Space Trilogy. It follows Mark and Jane Studdock as they are separated, Mark going off to work for N.I.C.E and Jane searching for answers to her strange dreams. With an Arthurian feel, the book shows the dark roads seeking power and 'inner circles' can lead us.
The book is Lewis' comment on his concerns for the future (he also wrote on it in an essay The Abolition of Man) and the danger of seeking glory for ourselves (see also The Inner Ring, in his compilation of nine sermons: The Weight of Glory).
